Abstract/Summary
In this paper, we construct a representation of a cooperative economic network to analyze the relationship between companies, universities, and government (CUG). First, we define a pairwise stable and efficient network having an assumption that universities involved in a network have unlimited research capacity. Under these conditions, a network that includes the "strongest" universities (excellent research capabilities) is considered pairwise stable. However, a pairwise stable network does not always result to a maximum efficiency unless it is a complete network. Hence, the network shows "tension" between stability and efficiency. Secondly, we study an improved model in which we restrict the research capacities of the universities involve in the network. We have shown that a company can generate a maximum utility even if "weaker" universities are included in the network considering that "stronger" universities are over their research capacities. This paper serves as an exposition to the work done by Yongjin Lu, Zhifu Xie, and Jing Zhang entitled An Analysis of the Stability and the Efficiency of a Cooperative Network among Companies, Universities and Local Government.
