Abstract/Summary
The study determined the anti-inflammatory capabilities of the aqueous leaf, stem, leaf-stem extracts of the kamutmutplant collected from a lahar-rich sacarum grassland in Pampanga.. The anti-inflammatory activities were tested using the carrageenan-induced paw edema assay on ICR mice using dexamethasone as the positive control. The plant extracts in the concentration of 10% w/v caused significant decrease in inflammation when administered 1h, 2h and 2.5h after the induction of inflammation. The % inhibition of the extracts were not significantly different from that of dexamethasone (p>0.05). At the same time, all the plant extracts were found to be non-cytotoxic to the normal human fibroblast cell line HDFn using the Presto BlueTM resazurin assay. Furthermore, all the test extracts inhibited the expression of the pro- inflammatory genes TNFα and IL1βas assayed using qRTPCR (p< 0.05 compared to the positive control of LPS-treated PMA- induced THP1 cells).
