Abstract/Summary
The growth of the Philippines' trust industry has prompted researchers to update a study done in 1998, about the contributions of a bank's trust department to its overall growth and profitability. This paper aimed to show that unlike 15 years ago, trust operations today significantly contribute to the banks in the Philippines. Using data gathered from the financial statements of the top 5 local universal banks in terms of trust assets, as well as interviews from the said banks, the researchers plugged in the regression model compiled from other studies and with the help ratio analysis have concluded that trust operations are indeed contributing well to the banks growth and profitability. Researchers were also able to identify the reason for the increase since the previous study, as well as give recommendations for the banks on what to do with the expected phasing out of SDAs in November 2013.
