Abstract/Summary
Over the years, financial institutions have resorted to structural expansion such as consolidations. Past researchers have proven that this widespread corporate trend is aimed towards improving shareholder wealth and related motives. In this study, the proponents seek to investigate this occurrence by determining the most significant determinants of consolidation among a pool of contestable variables in past empirical findings and market episodes. The proponents argue that the chosen factors significantly drive the decision for pursuing mergers and acquisitions. The research will apply a multinomial logit analysis using selected data of listed ASEAN-5 banks that have consolidated from year 2000 to 2009.
