Abstract/Summary
One of the most vibrant industries in the Philippines at present is the cellular mobile telecommunications industry. Competition in every industry is essential in achieving production efficiency and consumer welfare. This paper aims to address the issue on the competitiveness of the laws governing this industry and to establish a need for a sound competition policy. An examination is made on the current situation of the cellular mobile telecommunications industry and various problems and threats to competition are tackled. Selected laws are analyzed with emphasis on the Public Telecommunications Policy Act of the Philippines. This thesis shall also consequently recommend the necessary steps and law reforms in achieving a more competitive industry.
