Abstract/Summary
With family businesses existing around the world, its future depends on the hands of the next generation which led to the questions who will lead?, and more importantly even before that, who will join the business?– from the possible successors. These questions paved the way to the interest of conducting a study that will determine whether demographic factors influence the possible candidate for succession to join the business.
Over one thousand respondents were chosen from seven colleges namely, Ramon V. del Rosario College of Business, School of Economics, College of Liberal Arts, Gokongwei-College of Engineering, College of Science, College of Education and College of Computer Studies, around University. Survey forms were used for data collection, while frequency distribution and chi-squared test of independence were used for data analysis.
Results showed that all demographic factors except for sex had a significant relationship with intention to join. Furthermore, demographic factors such as birth order, geographic origin, parents age, business size and type of industry affected students intention of what position do they want in the family business compared to form of ownership and past involvement.
Recommendation discussed for respondents and their families, the academe, improvement and future researches. The study has limitation such as sampling size and unforeseen circumstances.
