Abstract/Summary
Practicum aims to bridge the gap between the academic world and the functioning world. It helps the student have a glimpse of what he/she will be encountering in the real world. This is an important activity because it helps identify the strengths and weaknesses of the students. By strengths this refers to characteristics and values of the students that helped him/her, relationship, applicability between what is learned in school and what is practiced and things that must be maintained or developed. Weaknesses, on the other hand provide an insight as to where the academic learning should be reinforce, corrected or changed so as to minimize the difference with what is practiced. There maybe no immediate and quick fix to address the weaknesses but what is important is that it is recognized by the student.
Academic courses mainly Inventory Management Control, Total Quality Management and Production Control courses contributed a lot in fulfilling activities at Nidec Precision Phil. Corp.
The trainee was assigned in the production department. This is where the main project of the trainee was fulfilled. The project involved her knowledge and experience in quality management, leadership and interaction with different levels of organization. It aims to monitor the scrap cost on Nidec's production of M8 sleeve and address solutions when the problem is identified.
With the monitoring of scrap and organizing an activity to improve employee performance it is the objective that there is an assigned person, the trainee, who will focus on the job to easily identify the contributors and feedback to higher management regularly.
The OJT program provided the student trainee the opportunity to apply some of the academic learning to a practical manufacturing environment at the same time the student trainee was able to learn and gain new learning and knowledge such as being self conscious, adaptive, organize, and oral communication skills. OJT program helped the student trainee discover potentials and how real corporate setting works.
