Abstract/Summary

Satisfaction and motivation are staples as areas to be addressed in order for employees to produce and perform. They are especially important in a labor-intensive industry like healthcare service. This paper focuses on satisfaction and motivation among medical and non-medical employees at Far Eastern University-Dr. Nicanor Reyes Medical Foundation, a hospital in Quezon City, Philippines. A survey questionnaire with questions on demographics, motivating factors, and job satisfaction was used to gather data. The level of satisfaction of employees was assessed through descriptive statistics, as well as how motivated they are by certain motivating factors. Employee satisfaction and motivating factors were then differentiated across job classification and years of service using analysis of variance (ANOVA). The association between satisfaction and the motivating factors was then established through correlational analysis. Results showed that employees were only modestly satisfied and are most motivated by training as a motivating factor. They also showed that non-medical employees were more satisfied than medical employees, and more-tenured employees were more satisfied than less-tenured employees. Also, only compensation and benefits as a motivating factor differ significantly across job classification and years of service. Finally, a strong association exists between employee satisfaction and motivating factors in FEU-NRMF. Based on the findings, it is recommended that FEU-NRMF improve satisfaction by improving training for medical employees and those who have been with the company for 10 years or less, and improving compensation and benefits for non-medical employees and those who have been with the company for over 10 years.
