Abstract/Summary
The thesis entitled The ASEAN Free Trade Area and the Philippines : The Need for the Harmonization of Laws provided a background on the current status of the relationship of the Philippines with the ASEAN particularly on the process of regional economic integration. The researchers provided an analysis and in-depth research concerning the issues that are likely to arise on the involvement of the Philippines to the AFTA. The main purpose of the research was to make the readers fully aware of the implications of international agreements to the Constitution and other existing laws. Ultimately, the researchers made several recommendations regarding the reorganization of the political process to cater to the several actors in the decision-making process. The researchers perceived the need to consider independent councils and public opinion in ensuring that every undertakings of the government is congruent to the promotion of national interests and public welfare.
