Abstract/Summary
The World Youth Festival (WYF) is an annual international event spearheaded by global UNESCO member countries. It will be held in Manila for the first time on August 2003. Together with various organizations like the National Youth Commission, the UNESCO National Commission, United Nations Information Center and the Office of the Presidential Adviser for Special Concerns, the UNESCO Club of Metro Manila is taking the lead to ensure that the World Youth Festival will deliver high-impact and sustainable outputs.
This year's World Youth Festival theme is Youth without Barriers which seeks to foster understanding among youth of different cultures. Furthermore, it aims to be a venue where delegates can gather and discuss critical and timely issues of their communities. The desired output after the discussions is a concrete and feasible action plan, a Youth Action Kit which contains all the suggested practices and programs.
The thesis group believes that the Philippine delegates to the WFY should leverage this opportunity to resolve a critical issue that is beleaguering the growth of the Filipino nation. The thesis group is lobbying for Non-Formal Education in Mindanao be the issue raised by delegates during the event. In line with the objective of youth empowerment, the thesis group believes that to overcome cultural division, all Filipino youth should be given access to education, even though non-formal means. This is an attempt to help resolve the current conflicts not only in the Mindanao region but to the entire nation.
The paper is comprised of a tri-dimensional campaign strategy for the World Youth Festival. The first part will focus on the solicitations of funds to support the awareness campaign. The second strategy will focus on building awareness and relevance for the WFY by focusing on an advocacy campaign for Non-Formal Education in Mindanao the details of which is explained in the third strategy. The issue will serve as the vehicle for WFY to be launched in the Philippine setting.
An investment of Php 2 Million is needed in order to implement the recommended strategies and raise the targeted Php 8 Million.
By implementing the tri-dimensional campaign through the World Youth Festival the UNESCO Club of Metro Manila will be ensured that a sustainable and effective program can be actualized.
