Abstract/Summary
In pursuance of the Bachelor of Science in Computer Science degree, the proponents developed a software application in Structural Analysis and Design and Computer-aided drafting as thesis requirement. This software package aims to bridge the gap between the highly computational Structural Analysis and Design process and the graphical routine of Computer-aided drafting.
The software was designed and developed under several assumptions and constraints. In the course of the thesis project, concepts derived from previous learning experiences and newly acquired ones were put into productive use. These were essential to achieve the objectives of the thesis project. The proponents followed the software development life cycle propounded by Roger Pressman in his book 'Software Engineering, A Practitioner's Approach. Interview's were conducted during the earlier stages of the project to gather valuable information from experts in the field of Structural Engineering and Computer Science. The proponents embarked on an extensive review on computer science concepts and study on the Structural Analysis and Design process.
Finally, the proponents developed the ARCHITECH Design Aid software package which met the objectives set during the early stages of the thesis project. It is designed in a menu-driven and interactive manner to facilitate user intervention over the process. It provided a linked environment where Computer-aided drafting could interface with Structural Analysis and Design. Specifically, ARCHITECH Design Aid covers the areas of Beam and Column Analysis and Design, Beam and Column DXF Generation, and plotting or printing with AutoCAD. It serves as a supplementary aid for structural engineers in performing design specifications for reinforced concrete structures. Since ARCHITECH Design Aid was developed under certain prevailing limitations and constraints, it can be considered as an initial endeavor providing the framework for future enhancements.
