Abstract/Summary
This thesis presents a comprehensive study of the general lotto system, r out of 8 lottery . The researchers provided the derivations of the formulas given in the article, Drawings since hit tables in lotteries' and a new multivariate geometric distribution . In deriving the new multivariate geometric distribution, concepts from the univariate, bivariate, and trivariate case were used.
The new multivariate geometric distribution was used in coming up with the distribution of the maximum outstanding time. The outstanding time is the number of draws required for a number to be selected. Each number has its corresponding outstanding time, and the maximum outstanding time is the highest among all outstanding times. Its distribution and expectation were derived to get the average waiting time of each number in a lottery.
A study of Luzon Lotto 6/42 was also conducted by applying the results or the derived formulas on the data gathered from March 8, 1995 until May 30, 2000. In the last chapter, the researchers explained the significance of the results.
