Abstract/Summary
CSM is both a manufacturing firm and subcontracting firm that produces high cut non-leather rubber shoes of different sizes, design and age bracket. As a subcontractor, CSM offers its services to international companies such as ADDIDAS, Air walk, and Moccs USA. It has also launched its own product called PROMAC athletic rubber shoes that caters to the class C and D markets.
CSM has two existing plants, one is located in Pasig (Assembly and Cutting Section) and another in Tabang, Bulacan for its Sewing Section.
Based on the study that the proponents have conducted the Sewing Section of CSM attributes to the 31.31% delay in the Assembly Section. In effect, the Assembly Section is incurring an average overtime cost of P 847,378.89 per month just to meet the delivery date to its customers.
After the analysis of the causes, the proponents were able to improve the output of the Sewing Section by 99.22%. The proposed solution suggested are as follows: The first is improving on the working conditions of the sewing area by increasing the illumination (to 200 Fc), improving the ventilation to reduce heat fatigue, and finally conducting 5s + 1 to for good housekeeping. The other proposed solution is to arrange the layout in terms of material flow. Through these methods, we are able to increase the production of the Sewing Section by 607.32 units per day.
The implementation of the proposed system will cost P 65,827 pesos and 2400 pesos for maintenance. Qualitatively, this will benefit the company by minimizing production delay through improved material handling and improved working condition, these benefits will amount to an additional monthly income of P 874,540.80 for Columbia Shoe Manufacturing.
