Abstract/Summary
Process Control in the industrial world refers to the interaction of several operations that would result in the development or manufacture of some products. The Industrial Process Control System (IPCS) is an IBM PC/XT-based system which serves as a physical means of connecting small-and medium-scale processes to the host computer. It can monitor process variables in the factory such as temperature, flow, pressure, etc., through the Analog-to-Digital Converter Card for analog signals, and the 8255 Parallel Peripheral Card for digital signals. The monitored data can be stored, displayed, printed or processed depending on the application program provided by the user. The processed data can be used to control industrial devices such as valves, motors, conveyor belts, etc. through the Mechanical Relay Card, Digital-to-Analog Converter Card and 8255 Parallel Peripheral Card. The software part of the IPCS consists of a test program and device drivers. These device drivers were to aid the user in programming his own application program. The test program, on the other hand, is provided to test whether the cards are functioning properly or not. With this project, the proponents would like to promote the use of microcomputers in the industrial world and to encourage the management to take advantage of this opportunity to optimize production. It is the dream of the proponents to one day witness that computerization would extend beyond office automation in the Philippines.
