Abstract/Summary
This study deals with the development of a software system that would assist program developers and other users in converting flowcharts to an executable program. It aims to develop a prototype of an automated flowchart to program converter, thereby easing the level of difficulty on the part of the program developer. To achieve the goals of the study, the primary approach used in the research was based on the examination of the current state of the particular technology both in and out of the country. Moreover, related materials about software engineering concepts and application generators were also assessed. Using theories and methods from the general computer concepts on code generators, the group came up with the software package called FlowGram, the automated flowchart to program converter. FlowGram facilitates conversion of an algorithm, using flowcharts, to its equivalent Pascal program. The group's primary intention in presenting the benefits to be obtained from the software is not on the basis of its direct application to the industry, but on its impact in this area of local software development in the future. The group is very optimistic about the possible innovations that the software prototype can contribute to the development of this new trend of computer-aided software engineering (CASE) in the country.
