Abstract/Summary

The National Information Technology Plan (NITP) embodies a national vision of how the development of Information Technology (IT) can benefit the country. As an emerging industry, IT has not been given the proper attention it deserves. With present day technology, the use of computer-based systems is a necessity. Continued enhancement of business applications and software packages are great aids in many institution's daily operations. Obviously, computerization has also penetrated the streamline of the government that shifted government efforts towards the development of IT as an industry. For this reason, the study focuses on the Philippine Information Technology Industry. The study started from scratch with the formulation of a Business System Plan as the initial end goal. From this preliminary study, the major problem discovered was shifted out and was pinpointed to the lack of a venue to cater to IT inquiries. And based on the findings, an information system was recommended to be developed. The DTI-INTEND information system aims to establish a system at the Department of Trade and Industry that is capable of generating reports, responding to queries and performing data processing functions. The system is expected to cater to the needs of both the management and public users, who invariably needs IT information for planning and monitoring of IT activities. This is also made possible through the establishment of a comprehensive database known as INTEND. The information system is concentrated on the aspects of IT Products and Services, IT Suppliers and Contractors and IT Sales. The system is developed using the INFORMIX-4GL and SQL, enabling inquiries to be accomodated within a few hours. Being written, compiled and executed in a user-friendly as well as a menu-driven environment. With the system's implementation, a new center will be in operation meeting the Philippine IT industry's needs.
