Abstract/Summary
A hovercraft is a vehicle capable of travelling on land and water, riding on a cushion of air. The global positioning system is a receiver which shows its current coordinates in latitude and longitude, usable in any part of the world. The project makes use of the two, the hovercraft as the vehicle and the GPS as the feedback system.
Making use of the GPS, interfacing it with a computer, and extracting the values from the GPS is one of the features of this project. The hovercraft is the other.
The hovercraft can be piloted manually or through the aid of a computer. The data from the GPS shows the driver his/her current position. Theoretically the hovercraft is computer controlled (except for starting and shutting down), the steering and throttle controlled by servos, realistically human intervention is still very much needed especially in turning as it will be explained later.
The project was envisioned for actual use and personal satisfaction, not only for academic purposes and requirements. The project was also undertaken for future use, especially the GPS which can later be used for fleet tracking.
