Abstract/Summary
This case study of the Oasis of Love, a religious movement, aims to describe the history, goals, activities, funding, management, membership composition, membership patterns, changes encountered by the members, problems encountered by the leaders and members after joining and prospects of the movement. The research utilized a Case Study Approach in Sociological and Anthropological Research, it limited its sample to showbusiness personalities (actors, actresses, director/producer, singer, composer) who are members of the Oasis of Love. The two methods used to be able to gather data were personal interview and participant observation. The instruments used for the personal interview were two interview guides, one for the leaders and one for the members. In observing, an observation guide was used by the researchers. The Oasis of Love is an offshoot of Christopher de Leon's renewal. He felt the need to form a Catholic Renewal Community addressing the spiritual needs of the showbusiness personalities. They were also concerned in serving and catering to the needs of the people who are not from showbusiness. These showbusiness personalities have the capability to influence these people and they are able to do this by using their field of specialization which is through the media and entertainment. Their community plays an important role in guiding the lives of the showbusiness personalities so that they will be able to change for the better which may also lead to a better type of people around them.Prospective members should be, first they should actors and actresses, movie-TV directors and writers, production staff, recording artists, film and theater bookers. Second, they should be the immediate family members of those people mentioned and third, others whom the spiritual director and the elders approve of.The most common motivation found in the found in the members wasto know God more. Members chose the Oasis of Love because it is for showbusiness personalities, therefore, they have common grounds.
