Abstract/Summary
The role of Galois fields in classical mathematics like Projective Geometry, and in new areas of mathematics like Coding Theory and Cryptology, has become increasingly important. This thesis discusses the restricted nature of the order of finite fields. Furthermore, the existence, uniqueness and construction of these fields are investigated. Properties related to the solution of an equation yk=c in a finite field are proved in this paper. Examples and illustrations are given to clarify concepts and results. This thesis is an exposition of Sections 1.1 and 1.5, (i) to (viii) of Projective Geometries over Finite Fields by J.W.P. Hirschfeld.
