Abstract/Summary
In this thesis, the mathematical properties of Poisson processes with discrete states in continuous time are presented. Theorems are presented with corresponding proofs. Practical examples are incorporated for readers to have a greater grasp of the concepts and to realize the application of the process in the real world. Generalizations of the Poisson process into the nonhomogeneous and the compound cases are also included.
