Abstract/Summary

As a screenwriter, Clodualdo del Mundo, Jr. is distinguished for his screenplays that reflect reality through the themes that he presents. As a realist, he views reality with an objective attitude, and focuses on daily and familiar environment rather than the concerns of the more affluent sectors of the society. This thesis, with the guidance of an interview with Dr. Clodualdo del Mundo, Jr., is an analysis of the themes of his screenplays, Maynila... Sa Kuko ng Liwanag, (1970) Merika (1984) and Alyas Raha Matanda (1977). Because del Mundo uses his themes as his vehicle to convey certain social and political truths in the country the time he wrote the screenplays, his realist ideas are drawn out. And, as the author of this thesis alluded the themes of the screenplays with the circumstances of the society then, one may conclude that reality is indeed reflected in his themes.
