Abstract/Summary

This is in-depth investigation focuses into the developmental problems and coping patterns of adolescent children of lepers in Tala Leprosarium. Purposive sampling was utilized and the sample consisted of six adolescents. Results showed from the data gathered that the problems faced by subjects aged 14 focus on their studies and financial needs. It can be noted that the problems faced by the adolescent children of the lepers are no different from those faced by typical adolescents. However, those developmental problems are compounded by the effects of having leprous parents, which make their probems more serious. The subjects cope with their problems positively, through striving and turning to religion, and negatively through withdrawal and passivity.
