Abstract/Summary

This thesis aims to discuss permutation groups in general. It starts at a relatively elementary level in discussing sets, binary operations, groups, mappings and permutations. It also discusses cycles and transpositions. Illustrative examples are given for purposes of clarity and elaboration. Most of the terminology is followed from A First Course in Abstract Algebra .
