Abstract/Summary
Tuberculosis in the Philippines remains a major health problem despite the government's effort to eradicate the problem. Having an insight on the spatial, temporal, and spatiotemporal distributions of TB in the National Capital Region is necessary to effectively monitor and control the disease so as to possibly eliminate TB in the future. Using Empirical Bayes smoothed quarterly TB incidence rates per 10,000 individuals from 2011-2015, this study analyzed the presence of spatial autocorrelation of the TB incidence rates in NCR using global Moran's I. Also, significant spatial clusters of TB cases in NCR were identified through the use of local Moran's I and Kulldorff's spatial-scan statistic. Results showed that high TB incidence occurred in the cities that were located in the northwestern part of the region such as Navotas, Malabon, and Valenzuela. Results of the temporal analysis showed that the TB incidence rate generally increased from 2011-2015. Lastly, results of the spatiotemporal analysis, which identified the spread of the disease through time, from the northwestern part of NCR showed that the disease slowly made its way to the southeastern part of the NCR.
