Abstract/Summary
In schools offering networking courses, the ability of network equipment is essential for the enhancement of students’ practical skills. Some schools are experiencing problems with regards to fully utilizing the schools’ network appliances. These problems usually arise when a school’s network appliances are installed in a different location than where the class is being held. Virtualization and simulation tools are used to address the problem of the limited number of devices, powerful they may be they do not substitute learning from actual devices. The user-account management and remote configuration research and development project aims to address the said problem by providing an approach to allow and manage remote configurations of network appliances. It aims to pave a way to enable authentication and authorization to access and modify network equipment configurations as well as provide a way to modify a network topology remotely. The main purpose of this study is directed for the use of networking students within the learning environment of Cisco Networking Academy laboratories to enhance and improve their education. The study enables teams of users to configure devices remotely using Socket technologies as well as enabling management of users and devices through a remote database which are hosted on the system’s server. Although the system is able to address the overall objectives of its development, there are still limitations presents which include but is not limited to data link layer protocols and hardware limitations.
