Abstract/Summary

The study examined the role of knowledge management capacity in the relationship between strategic human resource practices such as training, performance appraisal, team development and employee welfare and engagement, and innovation performance from the knowledge-based view. This study used an ordinal logit regression analysis to test the hypotheses in a sample of 105 employees from fine dining restaurants. The results showed that strategic human resource practices relate positively to knowledge management capacity and innovation performance, and knowledge management capacity mediates the relationship between strategic human resource practices and innovation performance. Finally, recommendations such as utilizing more strategic human resource practices by employees in these fine-dining restaurants can be made. As shown by the results, employees being more involved with training, performance appraisal, team development, and employee welfare and engagement and improving the quality of these strategic human resource practices can certainly boost their knowledge management capacity and in turn, can help their respective companies attain service innovation.
