Abstract/Summary

The world-wide phenomenon of tourism is still an on-going success despite the rampant economic downturns across the globe. Thus, to protect the hotel industry, this service sector must focus on enhancing its productivity through its managers and employees. This study determined the Organizational Behavior Model applied by managers in De Luxe Class hotels within Metro Manila. The results of the study helped hotel managers realize what Organizational Behavior Model they applied and its corresponding implications. They can also further understand their role in the organization. In addition, these results can help the researchers identify the people’s work habits, ethics and infer how people or specifically managers conduct their day-to-day tasks. In this descriptive research study, the researchers acquired the list of hotels as well as the classification of and standard requirements for hotels from the Department of Tourism of the Philippines. In addition, the researchers made use of the Models of Organizational Behavior and its corresponding dimensions under managerial operations by John Newstrom. The data gathering technique that was used is in the form of a survey questionnaire that was distributed to hotel managers of participating hotels. A Snowball method was applied from the Human Resource Department and other managers to whom the researchers were referred. A total population of 388 managers was obtained and a sample population of 197 managers was calculated. Hotel managers answered ‘Yes’ or ‘No’ to a series of iii statements that can assess what Organizational Behavioral Model the hotel manager makes use of in the organization as well as in managing their subordinates. The results of the survey was then calculated and analyzed accordingly. In conclusion, the result of the survey is that the System Model was the most frequently used by the hotel managers. In this model, hotel managers create a positive workplace culture that leads to organizational success and committed employees. The employees feel important and they experience a sense of psychological ownership in their work, thus, leading to a highly motivated, high morale and loyal workforce.
