A study was conducted to determine the effects of Caesalpinia sappan leaf decoction on red blood cell count, hemoglobin concentration and hematocrit ratio of male Swiss mice. Eighteen male mice were divided into three groups with three replicates each and three controls. The first group were administered by 1 ml/kg body weight of the leaf decoction, the second with 1.5 ml/kg body weight and the third with 2 ml/kg body weight. Controls were force-fed with tap water. Blood tests were conducted at the start of the experiment and after two consecutive weeks. The group given 1 ml/kg body weight changed its RBC count from 5.42 M/mm 3 to 5.48 M/mm3, having a difference of only 0.06. Hemoglobin was increased from 200.67 g/l to 204 g/l. Increase in hematocrit showed the greatest difference of only 1.67 % from 51.67 % to 53.33 %. Results showed that the mean differences in the red blood cell count, hemoglobin concentration and hematocrit in all concentrations were not significant. The sibucao leaf decoction showed no effect on the three blood parameters.
