Abstract/Summary

Landslides have been a threat to the Philippines in numerous occasions. Majority of these landslides came as a result of heavy rainfall and local typhoons. To address this problem, this study aims to implement a system that could monitor important soil parameters that are necessary when an area is landslide prone. These parameters are the soil moisture, amount of rainfall and soil movement. These three parameters could be monitored using four sensors implemented in this system. The accelerometer and tiltmeter would be used to measure soil movement, the rain gauge would be used to measure the amount of rainfall and the soil moisture sensor would be used to monitor the soil moisture. All of the data obtained from the sensors will be gathered by a transmitter and would be sent to a receiver station using Short Message Service (SMS). The receiver station is interfaced to a computer and the data would be stored in a database. A Graphical User Interface (GUI) is provided so that an expert would be able to view and examine the data immediately after transmission.

The system implemented is able to differentiate which transmitter sent the data making the system applicable for landslide monitoring in multiple locations.
