Abstract/Summary
Currently, the noodle manufacturing company's pre-packaging process involves laborers who manually weigh the noodles to find four pieces of noodles that will make a combination of 485 grams to 515 grams before packing it. The manual process of weighing results to greater handling of the noodles and inaccuracy due to the use of mechanical weighers. In addition to this, the laborers often extend their working hours just to meet the required output of 8,000 combinations or packs per day as set by the company.
The Noodle Weighing and Combining Machine was designed to automate the weighing and combining process in noodle manufacturing. The machine consists of two independent weighers each consisting of five bins. Each weigher will have a set of four combination bins for acceptable weights that will make a combination plus a recycle bin for acceptable weights that do not fit in any of the four previous bins due to lack or excess total weight within the required range. Noodles stored from the case after it has undergone the process of drying will be transferred directly to the funnel of the machine where it will be stacked and combined by the machine therefore, this will help improve the handling of the product through minimized crushing of the noodles. Increase in yield was achieved through several experimentations and the speed of the machine.
The group has proved that the Noodle Weighing and Combining Machine was able to meet the required output within the ideal working hours of the company with an average of 127 packs made per hour. The machine has minimized the handling of the noodles. Since digital weigher is used, the company is assured that the total weight per pack is accurate.
