Abstract/Summary

This study aims to fabricate a miniature Automated Storage and Retrieval System with color recognition. As a material handling equipment, AS/RS would monitor the inventory and provide its transport for storage or retrieval.

The miniature AS/RS would be composed of its mechanical transporter, a shelf rack, electronic module and computer interface. The rack would contain 6 shelves. Upper shelves could be filled with two workpieces. While the lower shelves could be filled with only one workpiece.

Initially, the transporter would be in its default position awaiting for a command. This said command would be accessed through the Computer Program. For every operation the gripper would hold the corresponding workpiece to be conveyed. Then X-Y-Z Movements would be responsible for its carriage towards destination.

For the storage operations, fluorescent colors will be used as the basis of dispersal. Upon recognition of the said colors, it would then be stored to the predetermined shelf. Each storage function would be reflected to its respective counters. These counters would be displayed in a program window to show the accumulated pieces. Retrieval operations would then rely on the allotted counters. This means that retrieval actions will then depend on which shelves have workpieces.
