Abstract/Summary

This case study aimed to find out the effectiveness of the application of subcontracting practices in the performance of Sunsports Industry. The researchers have chosen four functions of the company's operations to evaluate its performance. These four functions include quality, service, finance, and human resources of the company. Through an interview with the president of Sunsports Industry and the use of supporting documents such as financial statements from the past six years, the researchers were able to analyze and evaluate the effectiveness of their performance. This performance dealt with the comparison of the overall performance of the company when they self-manufacture products and when they subcontract some of its products to another company. Essentially, this descriptive study determined the current performance of the company while it subcontracts with one of the manufacturers in China, considering the effects of their subcontracting activities to their operational and financial performance.

The researchers were able to conclude that in the case of Sunsports industry, subcontracting their products shows to be beneficial for the company. Although there were no improvements in terms of quality and service, net income was boosted so as the work attitudes of the employees. Quality and service were not necessarily sacrificed though it did not reach company standards. It can therefore be said that incorporating subcontracting in the operations of Sunsports Industry was effective in improving the company's performance from a purely manufacturing company.
