Abstract/Summary

The advent of the Information Age has brought forth a new society heavily centered on information. It has now become crucial for establishments and businesses to properly maintain and manage information in order to succeed and prosper. Access to such important information could gain well-grounded positioning against competitors. Thus, it is crucial for entities, particularly businesses, to identify information that is essential as well as those beneficial to the company's success and advancement. This paper aims to provide a more adequate and pertinent information system that will cater to small innovative firms such as a quick service restaurant by means of determining its information requirements. Hence, the thesis statement: What are the Information requirements of Josefina N Sy Refreshments ((JNSR) in developing an appropriate Information System design? The objectives of this research paper are: a) to determine the information requirements that the system analyst would need in order to create an appropriate system design for the business, b) to assess the current system and operations of the business in order to determine whether or not an automated system is appropriate or necessary in the case of JNSR, c) to create an appropriate Information System for Josefina N Sy Refreshment based on the information researched, d) to determine the importance and difficulties that system analyst experience in creating the appropriate Information System, e) to recognize the importance of the cooperation with the programmers and the end users with regards to the creation of the Information System.

Based on the nature of the study, the researchers did an amalgamation of descriptive, evaluative, and applied research. The group had immersed its study into gathering basic information in the company, evaluating the company itself, and applying the research into developing an automated system. The study began several months ago with constant collaborations with the institution. Formal and informal interviews were done consecutively almost every time the researchers got in contact with the quick service restaurant. Observations were also done which allowed the researchers to congregate, assess, and scrutinize key information that were present in the establishment's current labor-intensive (manual) system. Surveys of customers were also conducted to gather feedback from the market as additional information, if there are any. Eventually, the researchers were able to gather the information requirements, which were used throughout the development of the new information system for the establishment.

The information gathered was further processed through various analytical methods such as the SWOT Analysis, Work-Centered Analysis, and Kepner and Tregoe Framework. Diagrams such as Flowcharts, Interface Mapping, Data Flow Diagrams, and Entity Relationship were used as means of data presentation. The use of the analytical methods and diagrams will be scrupulously discussed in the methodology portion of this paper. The results of the customer survey were presented in tables using frequency count method. A Gantt chart was used to illustrate the timetable of the project and research as it is being conducted. Overall, the findings showed that the type of establishment that JNSR belongs to need an Automated Information System in order to operate more efficiently and adapt to innovative development. One of the final outputs of this research is the documentation of the descriptive, evaluative, and applied research regarding the different procedures and steps that the researchers have gone through to completely analyze and determine the necessary information for a business in order to apply the appropriate information system. Moreover, the application of such findings led to the development of the information system software with its user's manual, which had been delivered to JNSR altogether.

After proceeding through the course of action mentioned, the analysts find it advisable for JNSR to maintain and manage the new automated system if ever it is integrated into the current system. The establishment may consult with the researchers or other system analysts and designers on the maintenance and improvement of said system. This research paper may serve as a guide for future researchers in the field of descriptive, evaluative or applied research. Particularly speaking, this may act as a trail in terms of methodology of applied research as it is rarely done in theses of college students. Future researchers may also make use of this research to act as a reference to further studies on information systems of Small Medium Enterprises (SMEs). In the sense of practicality, SMEs would know how to assess certain businesses in terms of its system and what information are needed, as well as what type of information system to integrate, founded on the research conducted.
