Abstract/Summary

Building layouts and design of telephone wiring system of infrastructures are manually done by architects, electrical and electronics engineers. They use drawing boards, technical pens, rulers and other drawing materials. Architects, on the other hand can use the traditional drawing materials or CAD software in drawing building layout. But manual drawing is time consuming and tedious sometimes. Also, CAD can be used to draw the building layout but some CAD cannot account the materials and generate bill of materials. In addition, the calculation of cost estimate for a design is time consuming because of the identification of all the materials and canvassing of their prices. This is one of the concerns of the contractors to estimate the cost.

The aim of this research is to develop a Telephone Wiring Design Tool. It will need a softcopy or printed material of a building layout. The tool is capable of opening any floor of the building. Stencils are made in Microsoft Visio that represents the materials in a telephone wiring system. The design procedure is done in Microsoft Visio which is interfaced to a GUI. Design standards can be strictly implemented because of the design restrictions programmed in the tool. For generation of bill of materials, the tool used Visual Basic to account all the materials: the length of telephone cables, conduits, etc. and the number of TTCs, telephone outlets, fittings, etc. The market prices of these materials are already saved in the tool. The stored values for the market prices will be reflected for the materials used in the design in Microsoft Excel.
