Abstract/Summary
A mathematical solution to the Mie scattering problem is programmed into a PC using a Turbo C++-based programming language. The radius and the refractive index are determined simultaneously from the optical resonance of the backscattered spectrum of a dielectric microsphere. The accuracy of optical resonance depends on the resolution of the size parameter, x-(2na/), where a is the radius is the wavelength. Calculations have shown that relative errors for the refractive index and radius of the silicone droplet is 7.14 X 10-5 and 3.61 X 10-4 respectively.
