Abstract/Summary

Happiness has a very broad definition. Each one of us has his own definition of happiness. In everything we do, we always want to be happy. It is the end of every human being in this world. However, we seek different things in the name of happiness. Happiness can be associated with the idea of contentment, satisfaction, peace of mind, or pleasure. It is from the different notions of happiness that the researcher would like to find out how the Filipinos could attain happiness using the Buddhist framework.

The objective of the study is to give a solution to our problem of suffering in this world. It aims to find out whether or not the Middle Path point of view could make the Filipinos happy.

Chapter IV is subdivided into two parts. The first part would discuss the history and foundation of the Buddhist philosophy. It would serve as an exposition of the Buddhist philosophy of happiness as the Middle Path.

Chapter V presents the popular Filipino values to serve as a foundation of the Filipino notion of happiness. The results of the survey would also be discussed to serve as a support in order to arrive at a proper conclusion about the Filipino notion of happiness. The analysis in this chapter presents the similarities and differences between the Buddhist and the Filipino notion of happiness. Through this discussion, the researcher would be able to conclude that the Filipinos, in real life, regard happiness as contentment and peace of mind.
