Abstract/Summary

Role-Playing games (RPGs) have been gaining support from computer enthusiasts all over the world. It was not long ago that shooters-games where the main objective is to shoot all enemies while evading enemy fire, and arcade games were far from the reach of RPGs. Since the creation of the first computer role-playing game (CRPG), RPGs have gone from taking small steps to leaps and bounds in terms of improvement, both from the gaming and technological perspective. The sudden popularity of CRPGs is due to their introduction of a new gaming concept unparalleled by arcade games. Although RPG conceptual games can be seen in the arcades, CRPGs have the advantage of being more complex, offering more realistic and compound instances patterned from real life events.

Realms of Imagination (ROI) carries on the tradition of CRPGs. It is a CRPG designer-a construction kit. At present, more companies are generating construction kits or game editors for their own games, in order to provide gamers with more options in playing. With construction kits, game creation through modification is made possible. This will allow gamers to play more varieties of their favorite games-custom designed to their satisfaction.

The objective of ROI is not only to provide a one dimensional construction kit limited to default libraries that accompany it. It specifically aims to allow the gamer to construct and make use of all utilities that would make a designed game become what is deemed to be a perfect game in the eyes of the designer."
