Abstract/Summary
A total of one hundred ten fecal samples collected from the months of September to December from the resettlement site at Brgy. Bolaun, San Fernando, Pampanga were examined for the prevalence of Ascaris lumbricoides, Trichuris trichiura, and hookworm infections using the Direct Fecal Smear Method. The respondents were grouped according to their ages as follows: 1-4, 5-8, 9-12, and 13-16 years old. Of the total respondents 66 were male and 44 were female. Among the respondents, 77.27 were found to be positive for helminthic infections. The prevalence rate of A. lumbricoides was 61.82, T. trichiura 22.73, and hookworm infection at 2.73. Mixed infections of A. lumbricoides and T. trichiura accounted for 10. All the age groups were infected with Ascaris and/or Trichuris while hookworm infection was seen only in the 5-8 and 9-12 age groups. There was no significant difference in the distribution of parasites among the male and female respondents.
