Abstract/Summary
Shadow Boxing is an audio game for visually impaired people that simulates a boxing match between a player and an AI opponent and uses Microsofts Kinect motion sensing input device. Previously, the research group composed of members Ian Cruz, Patrick Cruz, Enrique Malonzo and Ralph Regan Choa developed this game in order to study the performance of the visually impaired users playing the game and the probability of them accomplishing the games challenges compared to sighted people. Their study also compared which type of cues are more effective for them as a gameplay device: audio or tactile cues. Based on the algorithms and assets created by the previous group, the current research group have developed a new version called Shadow Boxing EX which focuses on the exercise aspect of the game. The aim of this research is to turn Shadow Boxing into an accessible and motivating exercise game for the visually impaired. This involves adding new features and modes to the game designed to increase the amount of physical activity performed by the player. Experiments have been performed to test the effectiveness of the game in terms of increasing the amount of physical activity; whether or not the new features are more effective in raising this amount compared to the original game, and if the game allows players to reach a level of physical activity comparable to a type of real-world exercise.
