Abstract/Summary

Giemsa-stained thin blood films obtained from 200 cattle were examined for Babesia parasites. A 2.0 percent prevalence (4 cases) for babesiosis and 3.0 percent prevalence (6 cases) for anaplasmosis and/or theileriosis were noted. All of those found infected with Babesia sp. were all Brahman-Shorthorn cross breed and the infection was noted among one to two years old cattle. Four Brahman-Shorthorn and two native cattle were infected with Anaplasma sp. and/or Theileria sp. and they were one to seven years of age. A generally low grade parasitaemia was noted in all infections.
