Abstract/Summary
Executive Summary. This study is concerned with the motorcycle production department of Kawasaki Motor (Phils.) Corporation. The main problem of the department is that the finished products in the F1 line lack parts. The company is incurring a cost of Php 13,994,000 every year due to this problem.
The following are the specifications of the problem:
The finished products that lack parts accounts for 31.38% of the total production of motorcycle units. It is serious because of the cost stated above which includes the overtime labor cost, the overhead cost and the holding cost. According to the engineering supervisor of the KMPC production department, this problem started to occur for the past two years. It has a growth of 22.73%, with an urgency of 18 months.
A Pareto chart was used to determine the 80% of the different parts that are missing in the finished products that contribute to the problem. These missing parts are that of the Fuel Tank. Through the analysis made rework occurrence on the painting section due to dust and oil and carelessness of the workers are the causes of this problem.
To address this problem, the following are recommended: Introduce a Remedial Process, Installation of an Improvised Pan, Autonomation with Wage Incentive system, Training Program and Transfer of Color-Mixing Technique from Kawasaki Japan. Implementation of these recommendations is expected to bring about a net benefit of P 14,407,800 along with the following benefits: reduction of rework and lack of fuel tanks, motivation of the workers and the development of teamwork.
