Abstract/Summary
Executive Summary. SBDH - Ikeya, the Plastic Tray Making Division of IMI Philippines, aspires to become a top subcontractor in the Electronics Industry. In so doing, the company commits itself to high standards and high ideals to provide its customers products of the utmost quality.
This study is focused on the improvement of the Plastic Tray Making Division that utilizes several machines delivered from Japan. The company also makes use of a small number of workers.
A total of 1.0928% of rejected items were produced over the allowable 1.0% set by the company within the period of January 1998 to December 1998. This dilemma can be owed to at least three factors in the production process. They are: the use of damaged raw materials, inconsistent quality inspection, and lastly, operator's recklessness. Further analysis and inquiries regarding these factors yielded the direct cause of the problem. The effect of this problem, on the other hand, is the opportunity cost amounting to $3,788.25.
The proponents have devised a number of effective solution namely: (1) Inspection of the raw material before usage, (2) Standardization of rejects, (3) Use of a lighted background, (4) Hiring of a permanent skilled worker, and finally, (5) Implementation of new methods in the Vacuum Forming Area. Monetary assessments resulted to a total of $1,105.72 as an investment. This initial investment will benefit the company by $ 1,683.03.
