Abstract/Summary
Executive Summary. Compack Container Corporation is a manufacturer of corrugated paperboards and paper products located at Taguig, Metro Manila. The company has been in the industry for more than 5 years. Currently, the company experiences unmet demand which amounted to 804,580 kg for the months of October 1999 to May 2000. This poses a big problem for the company since its effects include monthly loss profit of P 176,001.88 and the loss of customer goodwill. Based from the analysis made, the proponents traced this problem to the machine downtime. The major classifications of downtime was then identified and the two main causes were machine set-up time, which accounted for 44.34%, and machine breakdown which is 35.86% of the total machine downtime. The proponents introduced two sets of alternative solutions that address both causes. Upon evaluation, standardization of machine set-up and Implementing Preventive Maintenance (PM) were the chosen solutions. These solutions reduced the total machine downtime by 31.79 hours per month, thus increasing the company's production through the additional operation hours. Aside from its impact on the problem, the solutions were also proven to be beneficial, having a total Net Present Value (NPV) of P 993,588.42.
