Abstract/Summary

Bedsores or pressure ulcers are severe lesions that are often caused by constant pressure and skin irritation. These lesions mostly occur on bed-ridden patients who don't have the capability to move on their own. In order to avoid it, nurses or aides must regularly move the patients body from time to time to enable the blood to flow and let the skin decrease its time of contact from the bed surface.

To address the problem of bedsores, the researchers have decided to modify the typical hospital bed. The bed was altered in such a way that it has movable panels to help in moving the different parts of the patients body. These incremental panels are then equipped with sensors that will acquire the data of the factors that cause bedsores (i.e. Pressure and Temperature). The gathered data is then processed through the use of a microcontroller which will then relay the course of action to the stepper motors that are responsible for the movement of the incremental panels.
