Abstract/Summary
This study deals with an FPGA-based Fingerprint Identification system. A digital camera is used to capture the fingerprint. The system scans the finger and compares it with the templates in a database. The system is so designed such that the fingerprint scanned would be accurate.
An FPGA is used as the main processor of the system which analyzes the actual fingerprint. A microcomputer is used in downloading the fingerprint data from the memory to be compared to the fingerprint data that have been captured by the digital camera. The fingerprint database is enrolled and stored in the microcomputer.
The Fourier Transform is used to convert the image signal to a readable signal. By using a unique technique based on Fourier transform, the actual fingerprint can be compared with the fingerprint in the database. By enhancing the scanned image, the accuracy of the system may be improved further.
