Abstract/Summary

The process of feedback in learning enhances the sense of gaining information. In a student-teacher relationship, learning also takes place when the teacher evaluates the student's performance. Some ITS/ILE create its own feedback module that generates feedback which helps the user in their performance. Creating feedback module for an ITS and ILE can be tedious and may be disregarded at times, the researchers created an application programming interface (API) that will be used to help the developers create a feedback module that incorporates template-based natural language generation (NLG) for their ITS.

The API was successfully tested in an intelligent tutoring system (ITS) and an interactive learning environment (ILE). It tested the API's portability as well as its flexibility. Another testing was done to evaluate the effectiveness of the templates for the target age groups. It received a score of 3.72 out of 5 for the positive feedback and 3.19 out of 5 for the negative feedback. Lastly, the API was used by different programmers to test its characteristics such as having the API easy to use, appropriate to the developers, easy to maintain and document friendly. The API was given a score of 3.92 out of 5.
