Abstract/Summary

Qualitative research approach, such as structural ethnographic interview, was used for this study, and the informants were Filipino male college students who are members of the fraternity. Eight students were interviewed by the researchers to gather data that helped answer the research problems, and to learn more about the activities of the fraternity that the individual is part of. The data gathered were analyzed and several themes were evident in the interviews. The researchers found out why there is a need for violence, such as hazing, to occur when joining a fraternity. It was discovered that violence in the initiation rites is considered a tradition and a necessity because of several factors discussed in the study. In addition, the researchers found out the reasons of people for joining the fraternity.
