Abstract/Summary

Nowadays, It can be said that air pollution has taken its toll on the health and the quality of air that the Filipino breath in everyday. It has a considerable influence on the concentration of particles in the atmosphere which continently leads to damaging effects like global warming and acid rain. For people to be aware of these alarming situations and to steer clear of such imbalance in nature, an air pollution monitoring system is considered of utmost importance.

The study was conducted in order to integrate a system which will monitor and analyze the concentration of air pollutants in a certain sampling area. The system used a microcontroller and ZigBee transceiver to collect the air contaminant readings from a certain region of interest. This thesis aimed to analyzed air quality in a sampling area, specifically around De La Salle University, by using commercially available gas detecting sensors for Nitrogen Dioxide, Carbon Dioxide, Carbon Monoxide, and Ozone. These sensors were connected to the microcontroller which is programmed to computer for the air pollutants concentration and be able to transmit it to the base station. The information gathered would be integrated into the PHP script. A website was implemented so that end user can view the real-time air pollution monitoring system using an internet connection.
