Abstract/Summary

Lodestar Feedmill and Veterinary Products was established in 200 to produced broiler and hog feeds for Red Dragon Farm which is its sister company. This study specifically focuses on the production system of Lodestar Feedmill and Veterinary Products. Based on its present system and SWOT analysis, the feedmill production system would not be able to meet the demand of their customer by January 2013 unless production capacity is increased by 28.40%. If they would not be able to do so, then they will incur a yearly opportunity loss in terms of profit of Php 25,798,056.

To address this problem, a why-why diagram was used to analyze the cause of the problem in the feedmill production system. It was determined that it would not be able meet the impending demand because of the lengthy changeover (38%) caused by poor production scheduling, choking of the pellet machine (16%) caused by incorrect machine operator setting estimation, and the underutilization of pellet machine (46%) cause by the current boiler being used does not complement the new pellet machine.

The solutions that were chosen after performing the Kepner Tregoe decision analysis was a new automated production plan, training of the pellet machine operators, acquisition of lignin to be used in producing the pellet feeds, and procurement of a new boiler that will be able to simultaneously sustain both the old and new pellet machine.
