Abstract/Summary

In todays world, most industries rely on technological innovation as its most important driver for competitive success. With growing market competitiveness, technology is becoming a differentiation factor in the search for enterprise survival and to increase firm profitability as well as sustainability. Even a technology in its stationary stage needs constant investment in innovation. The telecommunications industrialization technology is an example of such stability for its technology is in its mature stage. The researchers conducted a case study of Smart Telecommunications in order to understand how their innovation processes have allowed them to achieve an increasing net income over the past 10 years. Data collection will include primary data and secondary data. Primary data was gathered via questionnaires from field surveys and interview of middle management personnel of Smart Communications, Incorporated. The secondary data comprises the financial records, published articles, annual reports, innovation plans and budgets allocated for innovation, historical records, and statistical records of SMART. Every year, Smart tries to improve old products and services and also maximizes the use of its R&D to introduce new and innovative products and services to cater to the needs of the present and future market of the Philippines. Smart continuous attempt to enhance and innovate its products and services over the years has served as its breakthrough with its expanding number of subscribers, side by side to its unquestionable ability to sustain its growth and revenues. Innovation in one products and services alone do not contribute to a company's success, a company must innovate in all aspects in order to really stay ahead of the competition. Innovating and understanding what innovations the consumer needs and addressing these needs all then contribute to making a company profitable and sustainable for years to come.
